The Asia-Invest Programme was launched in 1997 as an initiative of the European Union to promote and support business co-operation between the EU Member States and Asia. The Programme provides assistance to intermediary organisations to facilitate mutually beneficial partnerships between EU and Asian companies, in particular small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as to strengthen the framework conditions to increase trade and investment flows between the two regions. The Programme will continue for another 5-year period from 2003-2007, with a budget for project funding of EUR 35 million, in which three main areas of activity will be pursued:
• Business to business match-making and partnership building;
• Asian private sector development, and
• Institutional capacity building, networking and dialogue.
Asia-Invest is a European Community initiative that aims to promote and support business co-operation between the EU and Asia.
The Programme Instruments are aimed at supporting business co-operation between the EU and Asia across three areas of activity: business match-making, the development of the Asian private sector and the capacity and networking between EU and Asian intermediaries.
Asia Interprise
Asia-Interprise supports projects involving medium-sized business-to-business meetings in the EU or in Asia, organised around one sector or several sectors. Each project must be organised by at least two business intermediary organisations, one from each region, and the event may be organised in the EU or in any eligible Asian country. The project should be widely promoted and companies matching the profile from any of the eligible countries may register to participate. The SME´s will have the opportunity to meet their counterparts in carefully matched individual meetings. The project will focus on in depth preparation of participants prior to the event.
